Biggest character defect is perhaps one's timidity. Some people are timid  almost to the point of being subservient. That appears to be  the reason behind one being pushed around by the vested interest or groups . He does not have even the grits to push back. That makes it so easy for cunning selfish persons and their courtiers to subjugate him and use him as a puppet or a pawn, whatever had been necessary to meet their personal political goals. Such a man is never accused of failures. Far worse, he becomes the subject of pity!
